Platform Fee & Project Billing Explained

How the annual platform fee works alongside per-project fees, with examples.

Clay billing has two parts:

1. Platform Fee (Annual)

  • Charged once per year on your subscription anniversary.
  • Tiered based on your total number of active units across all projects.
  • Covers access to the platform, integrations, and support.

2. Project Fees (Per-Unit, 12 Months)

  • Each project has its own 12-month contract, starting on the project launch date.
  • Billed annually, separate from the platform fee.
  • Projects renew independently.

Example:

  • Jan 2025: Project A (400 units) → Platform Fee Tier 1 ($7,500) + $9,600 per-unit fees.
  • Sept 2025: Project B (300 units) pushes total units to 700 → Tier 2 ($10,000).
    • Clay credits $2,500 (unused Tier 1 months, Sept–Dec).
    • Clay charges $3,333 (Tier 2 prorated, Sept–Dec).
    • Net uplift = $833.
  • Jan 2026: Platform Fee resets at Tier 2 ($10,000).
